News Release: North Tama Schools incident

September 19, 2022

On September 19, 2022, around 8:00 a.m., Tama County Communications Center received a 911 call from the North Tama Community School area in Traer, IA. The caller, a North Tama School staff member, reported that three girls at two different locations, saw a male in a vehicle exposing his genitals.

Patrol Deputies were able to gather pertinent information quickly due to the diligence of the reporting party. Based on that information, Patrol Deputies were able to establish a vehicle description and identification of the suspect.

The vehicle and male suspect were located in Waterloo, IA.

At approximately 12:54 p.m., Jeremy Andrew Matney, 47, of rural Toledo, IA, was arrested and charged with three counts of Indecent Exposure - Masturbation in the Presence of a Child. All three of these counts are Aggravated Misdemeanors.

The quick response and actions of North Tama Community School staff combined with the investigation and continued investigation made by our Day Shift Patrol Deputies was vital in this incident.
