Our longtime K9 partner Tyson retired back in early January. After years of hard work and dedication, Tyson is now enjoying a well-deserved retirement at home. We are so thankful for everything he did to keep our community safe. He truly was a hero and a loyal partner.
Now we are looking forward to the next chapter. Deputy Wall will be the new handler and the new K9 should arrive sometime in mid-to-late June. Training will begin in August, and we are all excited to get started.
The people of Tama County have shown for many years just how much they value having a K9 unit by continuously stepping up to donate. Our K9 team is fully funded by these generous contributions which cover everything from training and equipment to vet care all the things our dog needs to stay ready and healthy.
That is why we are running a fundraiser with some great K9 apparel. Every shirt, hoodie, or hat you buy helps support our K9s and the work they do here in Tama County.
You can check out the gear and order here

We want to see how much we can raise to give Tyson a proper sendoff and to make sure Deputy Wall and the new K9 have everything they need to start strong!
Thank you sincerely for your support. It’s humbling to know that our community stands strongly behind our K9 unit. Your support means everything to me and everyone at the Tama County Sheriff’s Office.
Take care!
Sheriff Casey Schmidt
